Each month I try to come up with motivating quotes to help women get outside. Most of the quotes have something to do with pushing past fear and comfort zones, being a doer or checking dreams off your bucket list.
This month, as summer starts to wind down I wanted to take a slightly different approach and focus on recharging ourselves.
We are continually on the go, go, go. We feel guilty for slowing down, and rarely take time to fill ourselves back up. It becomes extremely challenging to achieve the goals we set for ourselves when our tanks are always empty.
This month’s mantra takes it down a notch and reminds us that it’s OK to slow down, take time for ourselves and be still.
I recently watched an interview of an old friend and she spoke about the importance of setting aside one hour every morning for herself. She wakes up early, enjoys a cup of coffee and reads, brainstorms and takes this time to recharge. She doesn’t use this time to clean the house or make lunches for her kids. Instead she dedicates this time to herself to fill back up.
It's only an hour a day but it provides her with the time needed to focus on herself.
If taking time for you seems out of reach try to remember we can’t give on an empty tanks, ladies. By taking the time to help ourselves we are actually helping those around us.
Even if you start with 15 minutes a day, lock yourself in a closet and do absolutely nothing but stare at the wall (some would call this meditation) it will slowly evolve into guilt free, recharging, focused time dedicated to only you.
I urge each of you to slow it down, set aside time to recharge and enjoy your stillness.
