Our Outsiety Mantra for March is “happiness isn’t size specific”. I’d love to tell you I was contemplating this idea during our ride—but let’s be honest, I was too preoccupied huffing up hills and trying not to eat it on the way down. But reflecting back I’ve found a few different meanings to this mantra that relate to our ride this week.
First, happiness isn’t (tire) size specific: Just because I think of myself as a road cyclist, doesn’t mean I should box myself into that comfort zone, because there’s so much joy to be found outside of it. Saturday was one of those days where my face hurt as much as my legs from smiling so much.
Second, happiness isn’t (adventure) size specific: You don’t have to travel long distances to big terrain to push yourself. Sometimes trying something new at your local trail is enough.
With these mantras in mind, and our first biking event of the year on the books, I’m looking forward to a new season of events. Our ride Saturday started on single track with some icy patches and ended on mud splattering dirt roads, serving as a perfect reminder that spring’s just around the bend. And as always, thanks so much to the amazing group of ladies who came out join in the ride, laughter, trailside bike repair, and to remind me how lucky I am to be part of a community of women here who are as excited as me to come home after a day in the woods covered in mud.
