While I still have to go to work everyday, there's time in the evenings to get out and play. So I was excited to be able to start up after-work Outsiety events with last week's ladies trail run! We had an awesome group of women gather at the Lion Mountain trailhead for a quick round trip run up to the lookout where we stopped to stretch (pro tip: make friends with yoga instructors).
There was a woman there, around my parents age, who cheered us on a bit, saying how impressed she was we were running it. We ran into her again in the parking lot when we were getting ready to leave. Again, she had encouraging words for us. I told her about Outsiety, that we have all sorts of different events, like hiking, for different ability levels, and invited her to come check one out. She responded that ever since she had a nasty fall she hasn't really been able to get out and do much outside, so she didn't know if she'd be able to do the things our group does.
When I reminded her that what she'd just been doing IS hiking she chuckled 'oh yeah, I guess I can'. It was a nice reminder that we only ever have to meet our own definitions for getting after it, no one else's. I'm pretty sure someone could walk faster than I run sometimes, but that doesn't make it any less running.
So here's to longer days, our able bodies (in whatever form they come) and this wonderful community we're a part of!
